In the most recent incident of gun violence in the US, a Walmart employee shot himself after killing six people and injuring a number of others in a shop in Chesapeake, Virginia, according to authorities.
According to Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky, the unidentified shooter used a pistol in the shooting late on Tuesday, inflicting at least four injuries in addition to the dead.
But on Wednesday, Andre Bing was identified as the shooter by two people with knowledge of the inquiry. Police were present outside the Chesapeake house that, according to property records, Bing bought in 2019, on Wednesday morning.
The Walmart is close to I-64 and off North Battlefield Boulevard on Sam’s Circle. During the course of the investigation, the store will be closed.
Five people are being treated at local hospitals, while six victims have passed away. According to Mike Kafka, a spokesman for Sentara Healthcare, they were at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital as of late Tuesday night. Kafka was unable to reveal their conditions or their identities.
Tuesday at 10:12 p.m., police received their first report. According to Solesky, police arrived at the scene by 10:14 p.m. By 11:20 p.m., the building had been deemed secure.
Investigators are not aware of any information about the shooter’s past that would have raised suspicions. Solesky responded, “Not that I’m aware of at this point,” when asked if the gunman was known to the police.
Both the hospital and a family reunion facility set up in Chesapeake had grieving people standing outside.
