Ken Block, American professional rally racing driver turned YouTube star and founder of Dc Shoes, died in a snowmobile accident in Mill Hollow, Utah, Monday afternoon. He is 55 years old.

Block “was driving the snowmobile down a steep slope when it flipped over and landed on top of him,” according to a statement released on Facebook by the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office.

Block “was driving with a group but alone when the incident occurred,” the sheriff’s office said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hoonigan Industries, the automotive and clothing media company owned by Block, confirmed his death on Instagram.

“It is with great regret that we confirm that Ken Block died in a snowmobile accident today,” the company said. “Ken was a dreamer, pioneer and icon. And above all father and husband. We will miss him very much.”

Block’s rally career began in 2005. He gained further worldwide fame through his Gymkhana series on YouTube. Videos on his Hoonigan channel have over 1 billion views and 5 million subscribers.

The American Rally Association spearheaded a worldwide tribute to Block, hailing him as “a huge influence on everything he touched, including the world of global rallying”.

Former Formula 1 champion Jenson Button described him as “a true visionary with his own unique style and an infectious smile”.
