Hollywood A-lister Luke Evans has quietly scoffed at rumors that he could be the next James Bond. The actor, who grew up in Pontypool – just a short drive from the Wales-Gloucestershire border – appeared on BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen this morning (10 December) as a special celebrity guest on the show.
Luke interacts throughout the show with the rest of the studio, including furry bikers Cy King and Dave Myers, and laughs a lot along the way. In the last few minutes, host Matt Tebbutt asked Luke what next year had in store for him.
As the 43-year-old was talking about some of the projects he was working on, Matt butted in to ask if he would be the new Bond. Evans was one of the key names mentioned along with Henry Cavill, Reg-Jean Page and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the man to replace Daniel Craig, who quit the iconic role after the latest film No Time to Die.
In response to Matt, Luke – best known for his roles in The Hobbit and Beauty and the Beast franchises – joked: “A new James Bond? Who knows. Nobody knows.
“I mean it would be fun, right? Don’t mess with him.”
His comments sparked a bit of excitement from his pals at the studio, as the anticipation of him playing Bond had whetted their appetites. This also sparked further speculation on social media.
Rachel, who also spoke when host Matt asked the birthday mom to stop calling her while he was on the air, tweeted: “Luke would be an amazing James Bond! Happy birthday to your mom Matt.”
Meanwhile, Gary Butler tweeted directly at Luke, asking, “Luke was right about what he said on Saturday Morning Kitchen with Matt Tebbutt that your hat is ready to become the new JB 007.”
