Octavia Spencer Teases Truth Be Told Season 3 "Expect a Propulsive Story"

Octavia Spencer is back on the case.

Apple TV+ announced Wednesday that Truth Be Told, the drama that starred the Oscar winner as an investigative journalist and turned true-crime podcast, begins its third season on January 20.

“You can expect a moving story, great acting, laughs and tears,” Spencer, 52, tells PEOPLE exclusively about the new 10-episode season.

The remaining nine NAACP Image Award-winning episodes air every Friday through March 24.

According to Apple TV+, the new season will follow Spencer’s character Poppy as she teams up with an “unorthodox headmaster” (Gabrielle Union) and works to keep a missing black girl’s name “in the public eye” while “the chase leads to one suspicious “sex trafficking channels” that may be linked to the disappearances.

“As Poppy, I finally understand the meaning of the saying ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions,'” Spencer added of his character. Poppy means well.

People First Look Season 3 saw Spencer and Union’s characters in a school auditorium or gymnasium surrounded by a sea of ​​people, many with various “Disappeared” and “Have you seen me?” posters.
